Unrequited Love

memories
like rusty knifes
infecting you with every jab

red-hot pictures in your mind,
burning you with every touch

and distant broken mirrors
showing you what your heart desires most
too far away for you to grab

a creaking floor of hope
giving way as you walk across it
depending on it to hold you up
and out of the pit of self-torture

the beating winds of time,
sucking out the self-esteem of the strong
and torturing the weak

longing
building up in your heart
increasing in pressure
and pushing against the walls
until your heart finally bursts,
flooding your mind with pain

your body suffering
drowning in a sea of misery
until the only way out
is death
